What Educators Say about Our Workshops

Since 1995, Facing the Future has presented hundreds of workshops at educator conferences, schools, and districts around the United States and in other countries. Our workshops cover a broad array of subjects related to global issues and sustainability education, including climate change, governance, and quality of life. The workshops demonstrate hands-on curriculum and tools for engaging students, closing the achievement gap, and implementing service learning projects.

After attending a Facing the Future workshop, educators consistently report feeling invigorated, inspired, and reconnected with what originally drew them to teaching. In their evaluations:

  • 91% of attendees rate the workshop as “Excellent” or “Very Good”
  • 97% indicate that they plan to use Facing the Future resources in their classroom

What we hear from educators who have attended our workshops...

“The workshop you did here and the Facing the Future materials were the inspiration for changing my entire curriculum this year. Everything we did in Marketing was with a lens of global sustainability. This served the purpose of our school, Global Connections High School, extremely well and was engaging for the students.”
- High School Marketing Teacher, School Inservice

“The workshop was excellent in all ways – thorough and addressing all of our needs/interests. This will be useful for setting the context of not only our district graduation requirements, but also offering a model for how other grades can address Classroom-Based Assessments and performance assessments. The positive, action-oriented approach to engage kids in a preferred future is very useful. Thank you for all of your focused, high quality work!”
- Professional Development Coordinator, District Inservice

“Practical ideas for implementation, hooray!”
- K-12 Teacher, Washington Association for Learning Alternatives Conference

“The examples were outstanding – both of activities and school examples. Best session I have attended at this conference! You answered every question that popped into my head.”
- High School Global History, Sociology, and Government Teacher, New York State Council for the Social Studies Conference

“I loved being able to participate in the different lessons that I would use with students. Thank you so much for providing something I can actually use!”
- High School Social Studies Teacher, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development Conference

“I enjoyed all of the workshop. I have been looking for a way to get global issues into my classroom for a while, and this gives me the tools to do it.”
- Middle School Science Teacher, School Inservice

“The emphasis on hands-on introductions to every idea and attempting to access all of the senses through these activities is priceless. Also: the instructors were flexible and exceedingly capable!”
- Middle School Science Teacher, Sustainability Institute

“Excellent presentation. Great mix of philosophy/theory and practical classroom applications.”
- Middle School Science Teacher, Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction Conference

“I have attended two of your teacher training workshops, and each time come away feeling more connected to good solid reliable resources and a good support system.”
- Middle School Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher

“Best workshop I was in at this conference – good balance between teaching/sharing and interaction – a great deal of immediately useful practical info for classrooms/schools/service-learning curriculum. Meets needs of teaching to multiple intelligences.”
- Teacher, National Service Learning Conference

“I attended the workshop at the National Science Teachers Association in St. Louis. It was the most powerful presentation I attended! I loved your use of materials and incorporated your outcomes in discussions with my 7th grade students in our units on soil, water, and stewardship. I felt stronger in my own understanding of population and sustainability issues and better able to respond to student questions. They helped me clarify personal lifestyle goals and the means to achieve them. I also alerted other teachers to your organization and shared materials with them.”
- Middle School Science Teacher, National Science Teachers Association Conference
